In the midst of the low pressure over the UK, the Carrbridge micro-climate produced a sunny, hot and dry but humid day for the thirty two contestants in the Graham Lorimer Memorial trophy played last Sunday. In spite of the inclement weather of the preceding few days, the course was in immaculate condition, leading to some high Stableford point scoring and three disqualifications.
One was for an unsigned card, another for a missing handicap and the third, on the part of Club President John Walker, for returning an incorrect score following a rule infringement in a hazard! To add insult to injury, or perhaps vice-versa, he suffered the indignity of going base over apex when chasing and tripping over his run away trolley on the descent from the seventh tee.
Thankfully unscathed, the President was able to present the trophy to the winner, Ken MacKenzie (8) who’s scintillating round amassed 43 points. Second was Andy Fraser (21) just missing out on 42 points but securing a shot cut in handicap. Michael Griffins (11) came in third on 40 points.
MacKenzie not only scooped the winner’s pot but also shared the “two’s” kitty with Alan Watson, both making birdie on the par three eighth.
Other Leading Scores (CSS 68 (39 points)) -
A Watson (17) 39; B Mackie (6) 38; G Gilfillan (28) 37; L MacBean (8), L Dickson (15) 36; G Dyer (23), D Crosby (18), T Loynes (14) 35.
In the Ladies section (CSS 70 (38 points)) Carol MacDonald (27) triumphed with a splendid round of 37 points followed by Ann Rae (34) on 33 and Cath McCook (29) just edging third place from Aisne Imperiale (28) by way of a better inward half (both on 31).
